Same Old, Same Old Series
The Same Old, Same Old Series (presently ongoing) is an exploration of form.Through the use of a limited set of abstract elements in varying compositions, the paintings are able to portray movement and the passage of time in infinite loops. Each painting almost always starts and ends in the same point, a never-ending cycle of comforting monotony.
The main subject of the series is a dot called Dotty, an ambiguous entity that represents nobody and everybody. The works in the series follow Dotty’s adventure through time and space, always moving forward, always finding their way home.
Individually, each piece shows Dotty traversing the same landscape over and over again, creating a sense of claustrophobia for the observer. However, when viewed as a sequence and each painting seen as part of a larger narrative, Dotty’s liberation from the loop becomes apparent. Whomever holds a piece from the series consequently contributes to Dotty’s freedom and unknowingly becomes a portal for the meandering dot’s next adventure.
Dotty is you and me and everyone we know, and we’re all connected in one way or another in this celestial sphere we call home.
